Crestwood was founded in 1968 by James M. Dobbins, Sr. as Crestwood Hospitals Inc., a convalescent care provider.

Rebranding

In 1997, the company was reorganized as Crestwood Behavioral Health Inc. to focus more on mental health programs and becomes a leader in behavioral healthcare in California.

Crestwood Bakersfield is licensed and opened as a MHRC.


Crestwood Manor in Fremont is opened as a non-IMD skilled nursing facility, with a special treatment program.

Meaningful Roles and Supported Employment

In 2000, Crestwood launches an initiative to hire, train, and retain peers in our programs and in the community by creating Dreamcatchers Empowerment Network (DEN), a not-for-profit dedicated to employment of people with disabilities.

2001

JANUARY

Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)

Crestwood launches our WRAP initiative in our campuses in 2001.  WRAP is an evidence-based treatment tool that is a personalized wellness and recovery approach that helps people to decrease and prevent intrusive or troubling feelings and behaviors; increase personal empowerment; improve quality of life; and achieve their own life goals and dreams.

JUNE

3-Year CARF Accreditation

Crestwood receives our first three-year Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accreditation of our community programs, accounting office and corporate office

JANUARY

New Campuses

Crestwood opens Crestwood Rehabilitation and Recovery Center, a MHRC, on our Vallejo campus. We opened the Eureka Bridge Program, a licensed adult residential facility, on our Eureka campus opens.  Our House at Crestwood Solano, licensed as an adult residential facility, is opened in Vallejo.  Crestwood’s Fresno Bridge Program opens as a licensed adult residential facility and a social rehabilitation program. Crestwood Healing Center in Pleasant Hill opens the Bridge Program, an adult residential facility, on its campus.

Spirituality Initiative
