overview
Crestwood Center in Sacramento exemplifies the company’s commitment to providing mental health consumers the range of care needed to place them on the road to recovery. This MHRC focuses on consumer rehabilitation in the least restrictive environment possible. Consumers, regardless of their individual diagnoses, receive a personalized action plan upon arrival. These plans assign appropriate classes and activities to strengthen the skills consumers need to move to a less restrictive care setting, and eventually back to their own communities. Once consumers have begun their personalized plans, Crestwood Center provides continual encouragement and assessment to ensure that they have the greatest opportunities to succeed.
The facility also offers a wide variety of classes, from core recovery offerings to community living skills and substance abuse education. Consumers can engage in a variety of activities like arts and crafts, exercise, relaxation, and movie nights, and they are encouraged to participate in several community-based outings each month. Consistent community interaction helps our consumers hone their social skills and prepare for a lower level of care.
As consumers progress through their treatment, they can earn self-passes, allowing them to spend a few hours unaccompanied in the community. These passes allow consumers to enhance their community living skills and demonstrate their potential to thrive outside of the facility.
Crestwood Center Sacramento offers Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). DBT is a form of therapy developed by Marsha Linehan Ph.D. at the University of Washington that is an evidence-based practice used to treat clients with Borderline Personality Disorder. DBT assists clients in learning skills to help them to regulate their emotional responses to situations that occur in their lives that they may have previously responded to in a self-destructive or aggressive manner. DBT consists of individual therapy sessions that are held weekly with an individual therapist to review events from the past week, and diary cards that a client keeps daily and follows the treatment hierarchy. Also weekly 2-5 hour skills training classes are held that focus on emotional regulation skills, mindfulness skills, interpersonal effectiveness skills, and distress tolerance skills.
